So it’s finally happened.

I’ve begun my new career as an Account Executive selling TV and Digital advertising, and my brain could not be more full of all of the new information it is trying to absorb…And it’s only day 2!

Have any of you had this experience?

Don’t let that get the best of you!

Here are a few tips that have helped me in this first week:

  1. Ask questions. And lots of them. Never be too nervous or scared to ask your manager or coworkers a question about your products, procedures, etc. They will be happy to help you, because your success will mean success for the group as a whole. Besides, you’re new! You’re not supposed to know everything right away (and even when you’re an old pro…you still won’t know everything).
  2. Research. Research. Research. Look up best sales practices online and in books. Take notes on common themes, as well as tips that seem like a good fit for your personality type. Research your products and services…after all, you’re going to have to be able to explain why your prospects should buy them!
  3. Practice. Everything. Write up call scripts and sample presentations, and ask your managers and/or coworkers to be your guinea pigs. Their constructive criticism now will help prevent awkward situations in front of a client. Go on calls with other AEs, and take note of how they present and carry themselves in their meetings and presentations. You can take some of their traits and apply them to your own selling technique.
  4. Don’t worry, it’s only the first week. As a brand new AE, you’re not going to be expected to make $$$$ sales just yet. Your planning and training now will help to make you successful as you continue on this journey of a sales career.

My hope is to continue to update this blog with my experiences and advice I pick up along the way, as I grow into a more knowledgeable and successful Account Executive. If you have any ideas or tips for me, I will gladly welcome them! And I look forward to growing with you, as well!
